American Red Cross taps former corporate exec as CEO

The American Red Cross selected Gail J. McGovern as its new CEO, effective June 23. McGovern succeeds Mark Everson, who was forced to resign by the board of governors in November after admitting to having an inappropriate relationship with a Red Cross chapter employee. Mary S. Elcano, who had been serving in the interim, will return to her post of general counsel. McGovern, a former business executive currently teaching at the Harvard Business School, will be joining the federally-chartered charity at a turbulent time.
